Our Story

canoopyfiinas began in early 2019 when three educators in Kota Kinabalu recognized a gap in how financial topics were being taught in Malaysia. They noticed that most educational offerings fell into two categories: either overly simplified to the point of being unhelpful, or so technical that they excluded anyone without a finance background. What seemed to be missing was a middle ground — education that acknowledged both the psychological and technical dimensions of money, delivered in a way that was accessible yet substantive.

The founders, who had backgrounds in adult education, psychology, and finance, started hosting informal discussion groups in Sabah. These gatherings brought together people who wanted to think more carefully about their financial lives but felt underserved by typical offerings. The response suggested there was indeed appetite for a different kind of financial education — one that didn't rush to prescriptions but instead created room for participants to develop their own understanding.

By mid-2020, these informal sessions evolved into structured services. The Financial Mindset Workshop grew from observations that many financial challenges have roots in belief systems and emotional patterns. The Structured Deposit service emerged from requests by conservative investors who wanted to understand Malaysian fixed-income options beyond what banks routinely promoted. The Wealth Transfer program developed when several families expressed concern about how to pass along not just resources but also financial values across generations.

Today, canoopyfiinas operates from our location in Suria Sabah, serving individuals and families throughout the region. We remain intentionally small, limiting cohort sizes to maintain the depth of discussion and individual attention that characterize our approach. Our commitment remains unchanged: to provide financial education that respects the intelligence and unique circumstances of each participant, delivered without pressure or exaggeration.

Our Standards and Values

We hold ourselves to careful professional standards that guide how we design and deliver educational services.

Educational Integrity

We present material accurately, acknowledge limitations in our knowledge, and distinguish between established principles and areas of ongoing debate in financial research.

Privacy Protection

Personal financial information shared in sessions remains confidential. We use anonymized examples in teaching and never disclose participant identities or specific circumstances.

Objectivity

We maintain independence from financial product providers. Our services focus on education rather than specific product recommendations or sales.

Respectful Engagement

We create learning environments where questions are welcomed, uncertainty is acknowledged, and diverse perspectives are considered. No question is dismissed as too basic.

Local Context

All content is adapted to the Malaysian financial landscape, regulatory environment, and cultural context. We use local examples and address Malaysia-specific considerations.

Participant Wellbeing

We recognize that financial topics can trigger stress or anxiety. Sessions are designed to be supportive, with attention to psychological comfort alongside educational rigor.

Our Commitment to You

Financial education should empower rather than overwhelm. We design our services to be substantive without being intimidating, acknowledging that money intersects with psychology, relationships, values, and practical realities in complex ways.

We commit to presenting information honestly, avoiding sensationalism or pressure tactics. Our aim is not to push particular financial products or philosophies, but to help you develop the understanding and frameworks needed to make decisions aligned with your own circumstances and values.

Learning about finance is a journey, not a destination. We're here to support that journey with care, depth, and respect for the unique path each person must find.
